Panda and Kiwi is an international cultural exchange program between China and New Zealand. Co-produced by CCTV Animation Group and Natural History New Zealand Limited, the program features “Panda Ho-Ho” who is created based on China’s well-known national treasure panda, and kiwi bird - New Zealand’s national bird. Through distinct and lovely visual elements as well as lighthearted story plots, it shows the adventures of a group of small animals on an island.
The story takes place on a deserted island. Panda Ho-Ho is caught and taken to a submarine by the poacher Ratty where he meets kiwi bird Qi-Qi and other small animals in the submarine. The animals decide to escape together. However, hit by windstorm, the submarine is stranded on an island and the animals build their home there. But Ratty stays not far away from them, with his submarine anchored on the coastline of the island. Ratty keeps coming up with all kinds of tricks to catch the animals. Led by Ho-Ho and Qi-Qi, the animals escape from traps each time with wisdom. Moreover, the animals build their own sailboat, ready to take the journey home.
